Submission of my Stage 1 portfolio – SCIE Safeguarding Adults Review Reviewer Programme

Read post on LinkedIn

I’ve just submitted my Stage 1 portfolio of the SCIE Safeguarding Adults Review Reviewer Programme, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect.

This programme has genuinely shifted how I think about safeguarding reviews. From focusing on learning events to understanding the systems, pressures, and contexts behind them. It has deepened my approach to:

  • Systems thinking & Key Practice Episodes
  • Reducing hindsight bias
  • Meaningfully involving practitioners, families and seldom‑heard voices
  • Identifying structural barriers, inequality and intersectionality
  • Facilitating psychologically safe learning environments
  • Crafting evidence‑based findings that can drive real system change

I’m grateful for the challenge, the honesty and the richness of learning the programme has offered. It has strengthened my confidence, curiosity and commitment to reviews that are fair, reflective and capable of improving safeguarding practice.

Thank you to SCIE, the facilitators and my cohort for such thoughtful conversations and shared learning.

On to the next stage and to reviews that honour lived experience and support real cultural change.
