I’ve recently had the privilege of supporting Bolton Community Kitchen to develop a safeguarding policy tailored to their unique environment and ethos.
Community organisations like theirs are often led by passion, values, and a deep commitment to care. Safeguarding frameworks must reflect that. This wasn’t about simply meeting statutory requirements. It was about creating a policy that made sense to volunteers, respected the people they serve, and embedded safeguarding into everyday practice.
We worked together to ensure the language was clear and accessible, roles were defined, and the procedures supported their wider mission. The outcome? A document they could genuinely use, not just file away.
Safeguarding is not about bureaucracy. It’s about culture. It’s about enabling safe, trusted spaces where people can thrive.
